We made it through VBS WEEK !

This was our last day of VBS week.  The girls were able to meet up with the cast from our VBS drama team.  They had a Medieval surfer's adventure this week!
This is the fair Princess Petty who was captured by the evil Midnight Knight.  Sir Finn, dude of Pismo Beach, then came into town to rescue her.
The girls were able to learn about God's way cool attributes alongside Duke Weasel as he made an attempt to rescue the princess.  They had a great time learning about Jesus in Bible teachings, music, drama, crafts, and games.  We can't wait until next year!
Marissa and Lark are enjoying lunch together.  Thank you Lark for all your help with the girls and working in the classrooms this week!  We hope you come back next year!

Summer Science: Our Insect Display - Part 2

Welcome back for part 2 of our Insect Display!

After our dead insects spent a day or two in their jars, we took them out to see how well the relaxer worked.  Some of the insects were too dry because they were dead too long before they were put in the jar.  The newly expired insects where much easier to manipulate for study.

What you need for the display:
  • A shoe box
  • A piece of foam
  • Straight pins
It is best to pin insects in the thorax, just to the right of the center.

As you can see, the girls had a great time pinning insects.

They are still collecting more fallen insects to add to their collection!

Summer Science: Our Insect Display

We have been enjoying our Summer Science projects with Apologia Young Explorer Series - Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day.

This week, the girls had a few surprise guests attend their summer science project: their two cousins!   They were to prepare their collection of dead insects for display so they could be studied.  Many of our dead insects were dry, hard, and difficult to manipulate for studying.  So we had to fix this issue with a relaxer, which puts moisture back into dry insects so they will be more flexible.

You will need:
  1. A wide-mouth jar
  2. Clean sand
  3. Liquid disinfectant
  4. Cardboard
  5. Water
  6. Measuring cup
  7. Scissors
First pour the sand in the bottom of the jar.  Then add the disinfectant (to prevent mold) and water mixture.

Next the sand should be topped with a piece of cardboard to fit tightly in the jar.

Place an insect or two in the jar, close the lid, and let it stand for a few days.
Check back soon for the display results!

Review launch: July 19th - Travel the World !

Many of you know how much I love to read homeschool curriculum catalogs and stroll through the convention halls.  Well I have to share that my love has gone one step further.  I was picked to be part of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine's TOS Homeschool Crew.  YEA YEA YEA

What is the Crew?  The Crew is a group of about 233 homeschooling parents.  Our goal with this program is to help vendors spread the word about their products and services.  We will spend the next year promoting these companies by sharing about their products and services on our blogs so that other families will be introduced.

I am part of a team with 3 other Crew members and a Crew Captain. You can view their blogs from a link on the left of my blog home page just under our logo FOLLOW US.

I will be launching my first review for our team on July 19th.  So if you want to be the first to read about how my girls and I headed out this summer to Travel the World from Asia to Europe and onto Antarctica, then you can do one or two of the following:
  1. Subscribe to my blog - then you will be personally emailed each new post I write. I usually write about 3 posts a week.  You can just put your email in the "subscribe field" in the left column of my blog home page
  2. Follow me - click the follow button on the left column of my home page

Every Story Whispers HIS Name .... JESUS

Like most Sundays, I was asked to read a Bible story to the children in our OASIS Children's program at church.  Most of our children are 6 or 7 years old.  Well today's story was different for me.  I opened a wonderful book called The Jesus Storybook Bible.  Every story in this Bible whispers His name! From Noah to Moses to the Disciples - EVERY story points to Him, Jesus! A Bible like no other, this book invites your children to join in a great adventure starting in the Old Testament and then into the New Testament! They will discover that Jesus is the center of God's salvation and redemptive plan for all of mankind. Your children will make this plan a part of their lives.  The 351 page Bible has richly colored and captivating illustrations.   I believe the illustrations alone are worth the price
of the book.

"For anyone who says yes to Jesus
For anyone who believes what Jesus said
For anyone who will just reach out to take it
Then God will give them this wonderful gift:
To be born into a whole new Life
To be who they really are
Who God always made them to be -
Their own true selves -

God's dear
Child

Because, you see, the most wonderful thing about
this Story is -
it's your story, too!"
