MFW Adventures Wrap Up for Week 4

We completed our 4th week in My Father’s World Adventures which focused on Jesus as the Light of the World, Native Americans, and the stars.

Bible: Our memory verse this week was from John 8:12 NIV …”I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  We discussed how Jesus is the Light of the World and He will light our way if we follow Him.

The girls decorated pillar candles to burn during their meals this week to remember that “Jesus is the Light of the World”.

History: The North American Indians were the focus in history this week.  We learned all about the Great Plains and Southwest Indians.  Squanto is our read-aloud book of the week too.

Our favorite story this week was The Rough-Face Girl index

The girls had a great time building both an Indian Wigwam and Tepee.

I used Magic Noodles for the foundation – then I put a bowl on top!

We scrunched up brown paper bags, flattened them out, stamped them and glued them to our foundation. … not real Native American looking but the girls had fun!

Tepee Time!  We had a little help from Uncle Chris for this project.

  1. 12” x 1/8” dowels
  2. Cardboard base & hot-glue gun
  3. A wikki-stick (his tepee topper)
  4. Brown paper bags – crinkle and iron flat (gives a leather affect)
  5. Collect a few giggly students …. or more!
  6. Stamps and markers to decorate the tepee sides
  7. A toothpick to keep the door open
  8. Plan for fun!

Finished project …

… and this is what the Tepee and Wigwam ended up being used for  later in the week… even more fun with Batman and friends!

Science: We discussed gravity, the Universe and stars.  In Psalm 147:4 it says …”He decides how many stars there should be.  He gives each one of them a name.” What an awesome God we serve!!!

  3. Love the tepees! I wish we had an Uncle Chris to come help us with those! ;) Hey, you asked a couple of weeks ago about the 3-D map stuff. I've been meaning to make a post about it but just haven't gotten around to it yet! ;P But it's a book I picked up from Rainbow Resource. And yes, it has plenty to use throughout the year. I always look forward to your weekly wrap-ups! :)
