MFW Adventures: Wrap-Up for Week 10

After a week off visiting with Grandma, the girls are back into the fun of Adventures with My Father’s World!

This week’s summary:  Jesus the Giver of Living Water, The Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, and the Revolutionary War.

Bible:  The memory verse is from John 7:37. .. “if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”

Science:  The girls did various projects with water.  They put a tsp of water on various items (coffee filter, tracing paper, plastic, wash cloth) to determine absorption.  They learned that items with holes/pores absorbed more liquid.

Then we lined an empty jar with a napkin, tissue, wash cloth and topped it with a marble.  It took just one tsp of water on the tissue for the marble to sink.  The wash cloth actually raised up as it absorbed the water!

Then we lined a shallow dish with coffee filter strips, colored each with a large dot using a marker, then dropped on a tsp or two of water.  The marker colors separated … somewhat… we could see the red separate to orange and yellow shades.  We reviewed the color wheel too.

History:  We read the The Fourth of July Story and Red, White and Blue.  Both are great books with nice illustrations.  I liked these two books and our Book Basket items for my girls age group.

Book Basket favorites:

We added to our Timeline: Declaration of Independence and US becomes a country – 1776.

Read about Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, The Revolutionary War, Liberty Bell, Paul Revere, the 13 Colonies and the original American Flag. … wow was that a lot of history this week!  It was a great learning experience for our family too.

Now for more fun!

Our Adventures co-op kids made Hasty Pudding and a Quill Pen and Berry Ink.
